For immediate release: Walk on White Expands to include Dance!

Art enthusiasts can now add dance to their Walk on White repertoire, as CoffeeMill Dance Studio opens its doors to be included in the third Thursday’s street-long celebration. ”hIPSO facto” is CoffeeMill’s new Informal Performance Series and will take place at the 916 Pohalski studio (just a stone’s throw from White Street) at 8:30p Thursday, May 19.

A broad array of dance styles will be offered where those that stop in can look forward to seeing choreography from Denis Hyland, Heather May Potter (of Key West Burlesque), and CoffeeMill’s chi gong teacher Michelle Brunschwig performing a Tai Chi fan dance. Other performers include event curator and organizer Christine Marguerite, Cricket Desmarais, Leigh Pujado, Frenchie, Katherine Doughty, Mary Kay Lee, Kim Schroeder, Margit Bisztray as well as a few surprise improv performers. All will be introduced by ever radiant hosts Rich Simone and Jack Meier. Though the event primarily features dance, the series also will involve readings, performance, live music and possible photographic works documenting the series.

Marguerite, a performer, choreographer, teacher and dancer with a long line of Key West credits (most currently co-choreographing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Waterfront with Penny Leto), danced in many small companies in the downtown New York dance scene and curated performance and art events in the East village before arriving in Key West. The inspiration she got from showing her work all over the city slowly evolved into “hIPSo facto.”

Motivated by this and a pure love of dance, Marguerite realized Walk on White was a perfect platform for getting dance out into the community. She likens “hIPSo facto” to “a community gathering or a salon,” where dancers and performers show what they are working on and creating in a low key, intimate environment.

“Most of the choreographers are performers and students at the CoffeeMill and are also involved in other shows and projects around town,” she continues. ”Here you have an opportunity to see their own work. The low key vibe and intimate setting will help you get a good feel of what we do here and make it easy to chat with the dancers and choreographers. It’s also just nice to get a free glass of wine and some entertainment.”
