Dance for the Very Young Dancer Ages 3-6yrs

These classes include a fun and imaginative combination of simple ballet, tap and hiphop steps to encourage rhythm, flexibility and increase dance vocabulary while building their self-esteem. The very young dancer identifies basic forms of movement through imaginative games, songs, music and rhythmical patterns as well as encourages taking turns and direction from the teacher. This program is designed to inspire young dancers to express themselves through movement.

Creative Movement (3yr olds) 

Dress code - Light Pink leotard with attached skirt, ballet pink tights or socks, full sole leather ballet shoes in ballet pink. One class per week. 

 

Towards Ballet (4yr olds) 

Dress Code - Light Pink or Lilac leotard with attached skirt, ballet pink tights or socks, full sole leather ballet shoes in ballet pink. One class per week. Can also register for  Hippity Hop.

 

PreBallet & Tap Combo  (5-6yr olds)  

Dress Code - Light Blue leotard, matching skirt, with ballet pink tights, full sole leather ballet shoes in ballet pink and black tap shoes. One class per week. Can also register for Hippity Hop

 

Hippity Hop (3.5-6yr olds) 

Wear loose comfortable clothing. One class per week.

Child/Teen Studio Program for Ages 7yrs-Teens

NEW, Fun Dance Classes for children to enjoy are being offered this semester! If your child is new to dance and wants to try it out, we encourage you to get their feet wet with these “recreational” dance classes. Aerial/Acro is one of our specialty classes open to all students. Students can wear form-fitting clothing of their choice. Ask your instructor for proper footwear.

Pre-Professional Dance Program

This ballet based program provides rigorous training for the serious dancer ages 8-18 in the Vaganova ballet technique plus other styles of dance. Dancers are challenged through hours of technical and artistic training as well as being equipped with knowledge, tools and resources for a possible future career in dance. For dancers that are incredibly involved, committed, passionate, driven, hardworking, and dedicated. Entry into this program also includes an invitation to audition for the CoffeeMill’s non-profit student dance company, the Young Dance Collective. Classes offered are Ballet, Pointe, Conditioning, Variations, Jazz, Contemporary, Hiphop.

 

Please Note: Level Placement is at the discretion of the instructor and is not always based on age, but by training, ability and potential. Students can remain in the same level for more than one year. Also, students entering certain jazz or contemporary classes must take a ballet class at least once per week.

Pre Syllabus - Burgundy leotard with ballet pink tights, full sole leather ballet shoes in ballet pink.

Please Note: Ballet Conditioning is a required class for our Vaganova Syllabus Ballet Program. This class will focus on strengthening, building and conditioning exercises that prepare the dancer for ballet technique, and introduces the dancer to injury prevention. Pre-pointe is introduced in Level 2 classes and variations class, pointe work continues in the upper levels at the discretion of the instructor. Also, students entering certain jazz or contemporary classes must take a ballet class at least once per week. 

CoffeeMill's Young Dance Collective (CYDC)

For the serious dance student, our non-profit student dance company, the "CoffeeMill Young Dance Collective" (CYDC) accepts new members ages 9yrs & up before the Fall Semester begins. Must take their Ballet Level requirements PLUS  other styles of dance, and attend additional rehearsals. In addition to extra performance opportunities, the groups travel throughout the year to Dance Competitions, Workshops and events. Please contact Ms. Penny at 305-296-9982 if you are interested.

Additional Info

• There are no watches, large hair pieces or jewelry allowed in class. All dancers should have a dance bag to reduce the amount of lost dancewear, footwear and personal items. Please write your child's name or initials on all items.

• PLEASE CALL, EMAIL OR TEXT (Ms. Penny 305-393-3001) if your child will be more than 5 minutes late.

• Missed classes can be made up within the same semester in an equal or lower level class or a higher one at the discretion of the instructor. You may also take a make-up class in another style of dance. We can suggest other class make-up options for your dancer.

• Credit is not extended beyond the end of the semester.

• Remember, class size is limited! Placement is not always based on age, but by training, ability and potential.

• Entrance into a class after start date is at the discretion of the instructor.

• Please check your email regularly since it is our main form of communication for students and parents. 

• Your child may choose dance over other activities and we encourage a schedule that does not “burn out” you or your child. The CoffeeMill staff is interested in helping your child evolve into a healthy, well rounded dancer with a true foundation in this exciting and challenging art form.

• There are NO STREET SHOES or sneakers that leave marks, allowed on the marley dance floors. All tap shoes should be inspected for loose screws to protect our floors. Thank you!

Performance Opportunities

Our annual spring dance concert Danceworks 22! will take place May 2024 at the Tennessee Williams Theater ! Production and Costume Fee(s) for each dancer involved will be due at the start of Winter/Spring 2024 Semester.  Registered students from Creative Movement and up have the opportunity to be involved. The CoffeeMill's "Young Dance Collective" student dance company will also perform throughout the year around the community.
