COFFEEMILL DANCE STUDIO
Parent and Student Information
Child/Teen Dance Semester
Monday, August 24 - Friday, December 18
Welcome new and returning dancers!
Thank you so much for your commitment and support,
and for making the choice to give your child a quality dance education!
We are dedicated to offering your child the most excellent and varied dance instruction possible. Creative Movement, Towards Ballet and Hippity Hop classes encourage 3 and 4 year olds to express themselves through movement and physical play. Our combo classes offered to 5 & 6 year olds (PreBallet and Tap) will introduce the younger dancer to ballet and tap concepts in one class. HipHop is also available for these students. We believe ballet is the foundation for all dance and serious ballet training begins at 6 to 8 years of age. We offer these students an hour to two hours of ballet per week plus there are Jazz, Modern, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical, HipHop and conditioning classes offered. Upper Level Ballet students are required to take two to three ballet classes per week and are offered Jazz, Modern, Tap, Contemporary, HipHop and conditioning classes as well for greater learning and retention.
For the serious dance student, our non-profit student dance company, the "Young Dance Collective" (YDC) accepts new members ages 7yrs & up before the Fall Semester begins. In addition to extra performance opportunities, the groups travel throughout the year to Dance Competitions, Workshops and events. Please contact Ms. Penny at 305-296-9982 if you are interested.
Your child may choose dance over other activities and we encourage a schedule that does not “burn out” you or your child. The CoffeeMill staff is interested in helping your child evolve into a healthy, well rounded dancer with a true foundation in this exciting and challenging art form.
This year we will continue to implement the Vagonova Technique ballet syllabus taught by Ballet Director, Joseph Goodman. The first week of classes will be considered placement classes to make sure everyone is in the correct level.
Remember, class size is limited! Placement is not always based on age, but by training, ability and potential. Ages are used as a guide and students may stay in the same level, or be moved up at the discretion of the instructor. Entrance into a class after start date is at the discretion of the instructor.

Other Dance Styles - Dress Code and Requirements
Dancers in jazz, modern, contemporary, hip hop and tap can wear form-fitting clothing of their choice. Remember there are NO STREET SHOES or sneakers that leave marks, allowed on the marley dance floors. All tap shoes should be inspected for loose screws to protect our floors. Thank you! Also, there are no watches, large hair pieces or jewelry allowed in the studio. We require that all dancers have a dance bag to reduce the amount of lost shoes and leotards. Please write your child’s name or initials on all dancewear and shoes.
Our annual spring dance concert DanceWorks 18! will take place May 2021 at the Tennessee Williams Theater. Registered students from Creative Movement and up have the opportunity to be involved. Production and Costume Fee(s) for each dancer involved will be due at the start of the Winter/Spring 2021 Semester. The CoffeeMill's "Young Dance Collective" student dance company will also perform throughout the year around the community.
Lots of work to do! Let's get started! Please help your child be ready for their first day of classes. We suggest they become a part of preparing for class by checking that their dance bag has all the necessary tools for class and by arriving early to stretch and begin their “mental” warm-up. Here are some reminders to help you get into the swing of things . . .
